Nevada Museum of Art Expansion
Clark/Sullivan recently completed the 50,000 square-foot expansion of the Nevada Museum of Art, increasing the museum’s education, gallery and research spaces. Supported by a major grant from the Mellon Foundation, the Museum invested $60 million to expand its infrastructure and programming to better serve the Reno community and surrounding regions.
Designed by acclaimed architect Will Bruder, who also designed the original Museum constructed by Clark/Sullivan, the new addition complements Bruder’s iconic black sculptural form and preserves the distinctive character of the existing building.
The expansion fulfilled the Museum’s strategic goals: establishing an Education and Research Center, strengthening the endowment to ensure long-term operational support, and increasing gallery space dedicated to permanent collections.
The completed Education and Research Center now welcomes more than 12,000 pre-K through 12th grade students annually for hands-on learning experiences, effectively doubling the Museum’s capacity and reinforcing its longstanding commitment to STEAM education.
This expansion creates a larger, more dynamic environment that will continue to broaden access to the arts for the benefit of the entire community.
