This middle school is constructed with structural steel and CMU and includes a gym, cafeteria / auditorium, 2-story classroom wing, computer room, library and administrative area.
The very first LLB/CHPS school to be built. This middle school is constructed with structural steel and CMU and includes a gym, cafeteria/auditorium, 2-story classroom wing, computer room, library and administrative area. Alder Creek is a part of California’s Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) program implemented by the California Energy Commission to offer grants to schools that utilize “green technology” in their design and construction. The school was equipped with a geothermal ground source heat pump system for heating and cooling the building, a central boiler, low VOC materials and finishes, materials with high recycled content, a dedicated recycling area, low-flow water fixtures, daylight classrooms, operable windows, storm water controls and settling basins to promote ground water recharging. This District enjoyed selecting many local subcontractors and enjoyed about $3 million in savings from excellent ideas gleaned from the subcontractor proposal process. Work on this CHPS project continued all through a tough winter and heavy snow. |
